So you’ve received a dental implant to replace your missing tooth. Once the dental implant or implants are placed, you will begin the healing journey. At this time, your implant(s) will be integrating with your bone, which is a process called osseointegration. Osseointegration can take anywhere between 4-6 months for the implant(s) to fuse with your jawbone. Once this occurs, you will be ready for your follow-up appointment with your dentist.
You can think of this follow-up appointment as the second stage of your procedure. Your dentist will expose the implant post and place a healing abutment on top of your implant. Once your appointment is completed, you will be scheduled to come back a few weeks later to get an impression. This will be used to create your implant crown(s) or implant-assisted dentures.
Your next and final appointment will be the delivery of your implant crown(s) or implant-assisted dentures. At this appointment, your dentist will make sure your new artificial tooth is seated correctly in your mouth and that you are in love with your new smile.
